WEATHER · NO DATA
Weather forecast by text message
Text where and when, and the forecast comes back as a short reply. It works over one bar of signal or a satellite messenger, with no app and no data on your phone.
How it works
Your phone doesn't need internet for this. When you ask about the weather, our server looks up the current forecast for the place you name and texts back the part you need: temperature, wind, rain or snow, and when.
Always say where
A forecast needs a place. Name it in the question: a town, a trailhead, a peak, a lake. Without one we have to ask first, and over satellite that's a wasted round trip.
- “Wind on Mt Whitney summit Saturday morning?”
- “Rain chance near Moab this afternoon?”
- “Overnight low at Tuolumne Meadows tomorrow?”
FAQ
Do I need internet for this?
No. You send a regular text over one bar of signal or a satellite messenger. The lookup happens on our side, where the internet is.
What should I put in the question?
The place and the time, like “wind on Mt Whitney summit Saturday morning”. A town, trailhead, peak or lake all work.
What if I don't name a place?
We'll ask for one before answering. Naming it up front saves a round trip, which matters most over satellite.
How current is the forecast?
It's looked up at the moment you ask, so asking again later gets a fresh read. In the mountains, ask again before you commit to a ridge.
Will you warn me if a storm is coming?
No. We don't send alerts, we answer when you ask. For watches and warnings, follow the National Weather Service.
What does it cost?
Weather questions cost the same as any other. First 3 questions free, then $15 for 100 messages or $7.99/mo unlimited, and first aid questions are always free. Most answers fit a single 160-character text, and a long one arrives as two or three.
Save it before you lose signal
Save the number and send one question while you still have signal, so it's ready when you need it.
